Chief Medical Officer Announced!

We are pleased to welcome Ghassan Jamaleddine, MD, as the new Chief Medical Officer at Alameda Health System (AHS). He will begin his role on August 1 and succeed Joe A. Walker, MD, who has served as our Acting Chief Medical Officer since October 2015.

As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Jamaleddine will oversee the clinical operation that includes the quality of care and patient safety, coordination of clinical care, development of clinical information systems, and physician engagement in strategic initiatives. He will also play a key role in the clinical leadership and further development of Alameda Health Partners, the health system’s physician organization. Dr. Jamaleddine comes to AHS from New York City Health + Hospital/ Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, New York.

He received his medical degree from the American University of Beirut in 1985. He conducted his residency training in Internal Medicine in SUNY/Downstate Medical Center and a fellowship in Pulmonary Critical Care at NY Hospital Cornell University. After working for three years in the Brooklyn VA Hospital, he moved to the American University of Beirut in 1995 and became the Chief of Pulmonary and Critical Care in 2000. During his tenure, he built a state of the art division with a fellowship program fulfilling the American training requirement.

In 2007, he moved back to New York and began work at Kings County Hospital as the Director of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. In 2010, he became the Chief of Medicine and, in 2013, advanced to the position of Chief Medical Officer. During his tenure at Kings County, he mentored and coached many physicians and introduced several changes that lead to major improvements in the safety and quality of care.

Dr. Jamaleddine is known for his uncompromising patient advocacy, team building, improving and expanding medical education and raising the level of interdisciplinary communication between services. At Kings County, he was the recipient of the Teacher of the Year Award, the Nursing Physician of the Year Award and HHC/Kings County Physician of the Year Award.

In addition, Dr. Jamaleddine has served as Associate Professor of Medicine and Clinical Associate Dean for the State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. He has alsocontributed to medical literature with multiple publications in his discipline. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.
